27 March 2026 – YARMOUTH, MA – A collaboration between the Brazilian Resource Center, AT&T, and Computers4People delivered 100 laptops at no cost to those who need them.
Who received laptop computers?
The three organizations worked together to deliver refurbished laptops to 100 people on Cape Cod. More than 300 applied and completed applications. Those who received the computer range in age from elementary schoolers to senior citizens.
What happened at the celebration?
A ceremony of celebration at the Brazilian Resource Center’s Yarmouth space gathered together recipients and their friends and families over bountiful coxinha, platters of torta, and fellowship. The event concluded with the awarding of the machines.
Attendees came from Yarmouth, South Yarmouth, Barnstable, Falmouth, Harwich, Hyannis and Centerville to event to receive their devices.
How does this address the digital divide?
The digital divide remains entrenched on Cape Cod, where access to computers and connectivity remains elusive for all. In this project, New York-based Computers4People collects gently-used corporate computers, refurbishes them, and delivers them to communities in need.
For the most recent Cape grant, AT&T was also part of the cycle that helped refurbished laptops fine new homes.
Why use refurbished computers?
Dylan Zajac founded Computers4People when he was 15 years old and realized that thousands of corporations sent lightly used computers to landfills, while people who needed the machines were left wanting. He hatched a solution with two-fold benefit: keeping quality technology out of landfills and filling a community need.
Why do people need a computer?
All of the day’s organizers stressed that access to a computer and connectivity forms an essential part of 21st century life, enabling students to do homework, supporting college study, helping people find jobs and run their businesses, connecting to community resources, and so much more.
That’s why working to help everyone have these tools matters, said Michael Mecenas, founder and director of the Brazilian Resource Center.
“We have a lot of people who do not have access, They try to use their phone but that doesn’t always work so well,”he said.
“This is something that everyone should have access to.”
