New Parkers River Landing Brings Big Impact

August 05 2026 – YARMOUTH MA – The newly opened Parkers River Landing has already changed the dynamics in Yarmouth. With its park, event space, and raised boardwalks overlooking Nantucket Sound, the town suddenly finds itself with a gem of an event space.
What is Parkers River Landing?
“It’s a park that used to be the drive-in here in West Yarmouth, and it’s been recreated into an event space and an amazing boardwalk,” said Meggan Eldredge. Eldridge is Yarmouth’s director of community development who has been shepherding the project. “Its elevated over the marsh and you can see out to the Sound as well as the river.”
What is National Night Out?
This week’s National Night Out – an event that connects local public service with local communities – became one of the first to take place in Yarmouth’s newest venue. Little kids, big trucks, flying drones, and cotton candy … what better way to welcome one of the region’s newest natural assets to the public eye.
What does the new venue bring?
Until now, events like National Night Out fit where they could, often in smaller less accessible spaces. For example, this event previously used the tiny lawn at the police station – but this year it could spread out, bring in more big DPW trucks for kiddos and curious adults to check out, host a drone demo, and add food trucks, free ice cream, and other goodies.
Parkers River Landing opens up new realms of possibility for both general use and community events, said Eldredge. Designers incorporated electrical support for concerts, rest rooms, water filling stations, and on-site parking, she noted.
What can you find at Parkers River Landing?
A $14M construction project transformed the 22-acre site just off Rte 28. The land where drive-in movies once played has morphed into a regional showcase that both embraces the Cape’s natural beauty and encourage people to play and enjoy.
With its accessible kayak launches and boardwalk, paved park loop for skating and walking, playground, and huge field with amenities for hosting concerns, fairs, and events, the town really wanted Parkers River Landing to go the extra step to reach people – and was designed to be used, not just looked at, said Eldredge.
“It’s exciting, it’s wonderful to see people using it. I see people biking, riding their bikes and using their roller skates along the shared use path; there are people enjoying the park, wandering around the paths, using the playground,” she said “People are just excited to see what it’s all about.”
How long did the development process take?
The town purchased the property in 1985. Over the decades a future vision began to emerge.
The past 10 years saw a dedicated set of planning work leading to a $14M construction project, creating the raised boardwalks and public spaces and balancing access with environment. It may have taken 40 years, but the journey has ended with a space that truly works.
“There isn’t anything like this on the Cape,” said Eldredge. “It’s unique, it’s one of its kind, and it’s a beautiful asset for the town of Yarmouth.”
