Wellfleet PorchFest Sends off Summer with Musical Vibes

03 September 2026 – WELLFLEET, MA – Wellfleet’s annual PorchFest danced to sunny skies and a gentle sea breeze on the last weekend of August, welcoming music lovers and music players to Cape Cod. The free outdoor festival welcomed 55 band across 30 porches over two musical sets.
What is PorchFest?
PorchFest brings bands to local “porches,” creating a walkable musical feast.
The word porch stands in as a catchall for casual outdoor spaces. These could be a garage, a gazebo, the side of a yard, and yes even a literal porch. The event brings an eclectic mix of music in a casual outdoor setting, making music a community event.
When did PorchFest start?
The low key festival originated in Ithaca NY in 2007. On Cape Cod, Wellfleet and Sandwich each offer a PorchFest. Wellfleet’s ran last weekend and Sandwich’s runs later in the fall.
Why do people like PorchFest?
“It’s nice to just walk around and listen to music!” said Andrea Pluhar, a musician and one of the organizers of this year’s Wellfleet PorchFest.
“It’s all about music and it’s all about creating a wonderful place for musicians to play. Its very relaxed, a very casual way to play and for musician to engage with their audience. Musicians love it.”
What did Wellfleet PorchFest look like?
Each year about 2,000 people visit for some of all of the two sets that run the afternoon. This year in Wellfleet the fest received the kind of perfect end of summer Cape weather that seems just made for open-air music and mingling.
How is PorchFest planned?
Organizers say the freeform mix of music creates part of the charm. In its 11 years, so far Wellfleet has been able to acommodate any musicians who want to participate, in whatever music style they play.
Planning and logistics take take on a sort of 3-D puzzle form with a giant map of town’s cultural district, markers representing each band, and planning moving around the pieces to create a flow that ensure bands sounds don’t collide with each other. The result feels as if the music sprouted in place naturally.
How is PorchFest a community event?
“You can wander around and listen to whatever you you want. The whole community comes out,” said Pluhar.
“Theres’s something wonderfully casual and kind of surprising because you might encounter music you didn’t know you liked.
